The “Griffins” of IPMS/FRESNO is
an annually chartered
chapter, (since 1970), of
a national organization called IPMS/USA (International
Plastic Modelers Society).
An elected board of (volunteers) officers provide direction
for the local chapter, using guidelines provided by the national
organization.
IPMS/ Fresno
has grown and prospered throughout the years to become one of
the most active and successful chapters in the Western Region. Our
Chapter high points was winning the IPMS/USA
“Webmaster of the Year Award” for 2004;
Region 9 “Chapter of the Year Award” for 2004 and 2005;
and the coveted IPMS/USA “Chapter of the Year” for 2006.
Our
monthly meetings accomplish one or all of the following. Improving
modeling techniques through program workshops focusing on such areas
as seams, parts alignment, decals, painting and other areas
pertaining to the actual processes of what helps you produce a
realistic scale model. The medium is generally styrene plastic, but
scale modeling is what you make of it. We believe that the
techniques of modeling are what bring modelers together. Whether it
is in metal, resin, wood or plastic. The subject matter such as
cars, ships, miniature figures, aircraft, science fiction, armor and
trains, shows the scope of our hobby.
Sharing information is an important ingredient in our monthly get
together. One recurring theme is “Show and Tell”. This helps
modelers express problem areas, share hints and tips or demonstrate
stages of construction they have accomplished.
At
monthly meetings, we also share the happenings of the modeling
industry or what’s on the horizon for new kits. Door prize drawings,
auctions or just free handouts are provided to the chapter on a
rotational basis.
Finally, we offer two family oriented events each year, a Christmas
potluck party and a summer potluck BBQ.
We hope this gives you
an idea of what can be in store for you as a member of IPMS/FRESNO
